Would you please send me your system specifications? lspci, amount of RAM, SWAP, test both suspend and hibernate while no extra application is open and check the result. Thanks.

Try to shutdown manually and see if it resumes from suspend/hibernate mode or not. Also I think that total amount of RAM might be too low.

I recommend 512MB, But please try to shutdown manually and see if it resumes from suspend/hibernate mode or not. I mean shut down the PC after it hangs.
