Hi,

You are reading PRN #5 containing the recent news about the Parsix 
project.

[ X.Org 7.3 on Viola ]
Finally X.Org 7.3 with many promising new features like better 
automatic configuration on minimal configuration files, wide screen 
auto detection on certain hardware and etc, entered Viola repository. 
Although many new features and tuned performance, it needs more testing 
by the community users. It seems that there is some stability problems 
on certain hardware like Intel chips. Please add your comments and 
experiences to bug #126 page [1].

[ Get rid of Python 2.4 ]
All Parsix official packages have been compiled to use recently 
defaulted Python 2.5. After updating your system, you can easily get 
rid on the old Python 2.4 packages to free up some space:

# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade 
# apt-get --purge remove python2.4 python2.4-minimal

[ gThumb is The Default Image Viewer ]
While Viola TEST-1 was shipped with EOG as default image viewer, I 
decided to replace it with gThumb that's more powerful, stable and 
feature rich.

[ Viola Gets Better PDA Support ]
Viola TEST-2 will be shipped with gpilot and multisync packages to 
offer better support for PDA devices.

[ Viola Supports VirtualBox-OSE and Linux-UVC Based Webcams ]
The most recent Viola kernel updates (2.6.24-parsix[64]-21) )brings 
VirtualBox-OSE and Linux-UVC webcam support. While Linux-UVC is 
installed by default, you can use the following command to install 
VirtualBox-OSE:

# apt-get update && apt-get install virtualbox-ose

[ Mirror Parsix Repository ]
Parsix repositories are now accessible over rsync, so you can build a 
local mirror. Module names are parsix.org/parsix-continent and 
parsix.org/parsix-official. Report if you faced any problem while 
mirroring the repository.
