does anybody know of a linux sip phone that actually works and is for gnome?
i've tried loads, including wengophone, ekiga? and others. the only one that actually worked with my sip service was twinkle, which is great.
only problem with twinkle is that it works with Kontact address book and not Evolution.
a sip phone with the features of twinkle, that can work with evolution address book, would be great. |

no, skype doesn't work with SIP accounts.
wengophone and ekiga are supposed to, but they haven't when i've tried or even when my telephone company tech people tried. also, they don't seem to have options such as transfer call etc.
twinkle is the only linux program that i've seen work so far, but it's more for kde users than gnome evolution. |

Hmm, I just tried in Root Terminal:
Code:
apt-get install twinkle
And then started it in Applications / Internet / Twinkle. I didn't follow the wizard though, because I don't know about SIP. I'm already using Kopete that is KDE app, and I don't have any big problems with it. Kopete works nicely with Gnome. Does Twinkle work in your PC ? |

kopete is a chat program like pidgin. sip is telephone protocol. in my office, we don't have any normal telephones. all phones are via the computers, with a SIP account to our telephone service provider.
Twinkle works perfectly with our SIP accounts, but it links with Kaddress book, rather than evolution |

i gave up on linking evolution with kaddressbook.
instead i decided to use kontact and installed the same. only problem is tha kmail is has invisible fonts for the mail folders.
i thought i might have made a mistake in installation, so installed the whole of kde instead.
still same problem. anyone been able to make kmail work properly? |

| What do you mean "invisible" fonts??!?!? Can you post a screenshot? I've used Kmail for many years and never experienced such a thing. Thanks! |

Out of curiosity, have you tried the latest 'Empathy' chat client? I've read that it will be bundled with Gnome 2.24 but its documentation seems to indicate that it works with SIP accounts too. While I have not tried this application myself, common sense tells me that if it's slated to be a native Gnome application that it will probably interface with other Gnome applications; perhaps Evolution. Give it a try (it's in the repository - you may need to compile the absolutely latest version yourself.) More information here:
