Viola users, now you can access security updates by adding the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources/list :

Code:
# Security
deb http://security.parsix.org viola main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.parsix.org viola main contrib non-free

Or simply by updating the system and installing updated distro-defaults package.

In a related topic, `Boss Skua` repositories have lunched and are ready to use, but still are not supported and would break your system's stability. If you are interested, you can replace `viola` with `boss` in /etc/apt/sources.list file and then:

Code:
# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

Very stable, I have used Boss and daily updates for many days or weeks on my both of my PC:s, and have not had any problems with my PC:s. I use Parsix many hours every day for my work and hobbies as the main operating system installed to my harddrive, having no other OS partitions although it's possible to have many different OS partitions as desc. I run other OS's like WinXP inside VirtualBox inside Parsix.

The English Howtos describe how I and others have installed Parsix, and nobody has yet posted to forum about any problems in those howtos.

English Howtos

I also use Boss so that I can report bugs if I can find any, so that they can be fixed during development cycle, making a better next release.

Also please see this wiki topic link below, which includes Bugzilla URL and other general troubleshooting tips. There is listed bugs that others have had with their hardware. Thanks! Smile

If you're new to Linux or inexperienced at solving problems - DON"T USE TESTING OR BETA REPOSITORIES!!! This should be common sense. While the packages may not cause any problems at the moment, something could change at any time that leaves users at a command prompt instead of a graphical login or worse, a computer that won't boot. If you prize stability, stick with Viola until 'Boss' is officially released.

UPDATE: CHANGED HOWTO TOPICS AND MADE REORDERING
=> Upgrade for Boss only if you are are not busy or newbie
http://www.parsix.org/html/index.php?mo ... g=HowTosEn

cmost:
Yes, I now remember that has happened with Parsix sometimes previously, and with other distros of course too. I sure have backups and know how to figure everything out, but if you:

- have a very busy life
- need working computer most of the time
- don't have time to reinstall sometimes
- don't have automatic continuous backups with JungleDisk or similar
- have just started using Parsix and haven't figured out how to fix it
- haven't paid attention to Murphy's laws
- something happens when you update from beta repositories

Well, then there can be some interesting effects Wink . There is the following wiki page, but it only covers stuff listed there, not some possible other stuff.

Fixes for everything we know of
