Post subject: Update Manager broken?

Updated yesterday and all was fine. Today when I tried to update
it would not let me log in as admin.
#apt-get update works
#apt-get upgrade works

| Hi! What do you mean when you say you are trying to log in as "Admin"? Have you created a username Admin? Are you trying to login as root? Typically, you can use GTK applications as the root user (e.g., system administrator) if you preface the command needed to start the application with gksu. For example, to edit a text file as root, you'd type "gksu gedit /path/to/file". Programs such as 'Synaptic' should already be setup this way. You can also add your username to the sudoers file and use "sudo" in front of any command that you wish to run as root (same way Ubuntu users manage their systems.) Personally, I would not turn on sudo unless you're sure your computer system is secure. |

When you click on the update manager you get a dialog box.
It asks you to put in your Admin passwd.
When I put in my ROOT psswd there is nothing. Before it just worked.
The dialog box closes. The update manager never comes up.
And it did the same thing today. I used apt-get and got todays updates.
No problem. I use apt-get, it works. Some people may prefer the update manager. |

| I'm up to date with all updates I update on a daily basis and no such problems I would suggest completely uninstalling the update manager and reinstall and see what happens its normally very reliable and stops the system from braking when you update. |

For me, "install updates" doesn't work. It spits out "reading packaga information", then nothing happens. from a terminal i get this;
