Does anyone know what has to be done in order to utilize the "bigmem" kernel with Parsix? When I install this kernel and its headers, and then select it upon reboot, nothing happens. the system halts and refuses to load. Does it have something to do with the initrd warning that appears when one installs a kernel from Synaptic. if so, how can it be fixed? Thanks!

Recompiled kernel source 2.6.24-parsix-21 to use 64 GB of memory. Worked like a charm! Smile

Use the 64 bit edition of Parsix instead.

We have to disable highmem support again, because we lost support on many CPUs that don't support PAE mode.

Uh oh. That's okay. I don't mind compiling my own kernel. Wouid it be possible to offer two kernels, the non-highmem version for the default and the highmem version in the repository as an alternative?

Now its possible to install bigmem Parsix kernel packages. Just wait about 30 minutes to make packages placed into the repository, and then:

bigmem kernel is for system with higher than 4 gb of ram

Their certainly are advantages I use Parsix in both 32bit and 64bt rigs, Parsix excels in 64bt does Alan use 64bt for developeing as its really spot on. But good 64bt distros are thin on the ground. Sidux is another excellent 64bt distro. I have no problems with flash with either distro.
