I thought I would start a new topic to post a few bugs that I've found in the latest Parsix. Other users should feel free to add their own bug discoveries so that the developers can act on them and make Viola the BEST Debian implementation ever.
1. gdebi fails to install packages. - double-clicking a deb will launch gdebi, and it will dutifully check for dependencies, etc., but when I click install, the gdebi window simply disappears. I usually resort to opening a terminal and typing "dpkg -i *.deb" to install downloaded deb files. My suspicion is that it isn't running as root and doesn't know to ask for the root password.
2. The World Clock applet doesn't display the weather or temperature - I configured my location and then opened the preferences dialog by right clicking the clock applet and selecting preferences. When I tick the check boxes next to 'show temperature' and/or 'show weather' nothing happens. The applet appears to get a tiny bit larger in size, but no weather or temperature displays.
3. Text files have a generic gear icon and aren't automatically associated with gedit (or another text editor.) - I noticed this problem on other Gnome 2.22 distributions, so perhaps it's an issue with Gnome and not with Parsix (or Debian) per se.
4. Apt behaves oddly in terminal on occasion. - Sometimes when I invoke an 'apt-get update' followed by an 'apt-get dist-upgrade' the terminal will behave as though I pressed and held the enter key for an extended period of time... the prompt "root@cmost-linux1#" will scroll by dozens of times and any packages will automatically begin downloading without my having confirmed the installation by pressing 'Y'. Usually a reboot will stop this behavior but it occurs periodically and makes me think there might be a bug with Apt. Aptitude has never behaved this way..
5. GDM will no longer display my personal avatar in a GDM theme with a face browser. The change occurred about a week ago after an update. Even though I have specified a user avatar (by invoking 'about me' and choosing a user icon from "/usr/share/pixmaps/faces". My avatar displays correctly elsewhere in Parsix. Furthermore, specifying my avatar directly by opening the Login Window configuration dialog (Administration --> Login Window) and changing the default face from 'nobody' to my avatar also fails to have any affect on GDM. Even changing the global face directory to "/usr/share/pixmaps/faces" from its default of "/usr/share failed to get GDM to use my preferred avatar; the 'nobody' face is always displayed. |

| I should have mentioned...my system has been fully dist-upgraded to the latest Viola packages (which are updated nearly daily.) |
