need to boot parsix from usb...well actually want to boot from usb external hard drive. The problem is my bios does not support boot from usb option it is an older compaq. i installed parsix with grub installed on the external drive as well as my intention was to then use GAG as the bootloader but it does not recognize the drive at all because Usb support has not yet been loaded at this point.

So how can I load into the mbr a small footprint of parsix to get it to boot into the usb or a cd bootdisk would even be fine(not the livecd as I want to run parsix off the external partition) Maybe redo install with parsix on mbr on local drive c: but I think I will have the same problem as GAG where it usb support has not been loaded yet so it won't recognize the external drive yet to boot from it?

Any ideas?
My other thought was putting /root and /home partition on this drive but thinking boot would be a problem too as those partitions would not be able to be accessed until usb support has been loaded.

Maybe you could take ideas from Pendrivelinux.com article:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/11/21 ... ive-linux/

and other articles there. Be sure to post here if you get it working.

That looks like it would work ...if I had a floppy ....maybe I do have one in my scrap box....but I am gonna hunt around see if there is another way... I mean I know puppy linux boots to memory maybe doing something like that. Anyway it will give something to do. It is a little more urgent now has i just had my laptop stolen last week and so I am sans linux right at the moment.
