Finally, after a long period of testing and fixes, the first set of Parsix Frankie (3.5) testing ISO images are out. Although this is the first testing ISO, the system stability is very good and there shouldn't be any strange errors or problems. This version is synchronized with Debian testing repositories as of March 7, 2010 and brings tons of updated packages. ISO images will not fit on CD and a DVD is required to burn them. Frankie TEST-1 ISO images are compiled using SquashFS 4.0 with LZMA compression and for the first time we are using GRUB 2 as default boot loader on DVD. The kernel build system has been modified and improved vastly to produce better kernel packages. Our brand new 2.6.32.9 kernel with improved configuration is patched using the latest TuxOnIce suspension/hibernation and Kon Kolivas's BFS performance patches. This version also represents our new experimental USB installer that enables users to run Parsix from USB keys and pen drives. Not forget to mention, Frankie has a brand new spicy look and feel. Parsix 3.5 default features: NetworkManager 0.8 as default networking stack, updated and improved installer system, GRUB 2 boot loader and ext4 file system, brand new update-manager package, and X.Org 7.5. Highlights: GNOME 2.28.2, X.Org 7.5, GRUB 2, GNU Iceweasel 3.5.8, GParted 0.5.1, Pidgin 2.6.5, OpenOffice.org 3.1.1, Compiz-Fusion 0.8.4 and, VirtualBox-OSE 3.1.4.
